Northvail Media Center

The media program aims to develop technology and keyboarding skills while also instilling a love of reading in all students. Each week students in grades 1 - 5 visit the media center for both a media and a technology lesson. Additionally, keyboarding is taught in grades 2 – 5, and kindergarten students are given the opportunity to listen to fiction and nonfiction literature.

Students check out books every week from our extensive, current collection in the media center. Our library includes a wide array of fiction and nonfiction books that span all genres and reading levels. Students are urged to utilize our online catalog to search for books and locate them independently.

Learning how to access information from both print and online sources is another integral part of the media program. Students learn how to use print and online dictionaries, thesauruses, and encyclopedias to locate relevant, useful information. Older students showcase their findings by creating slides on either PowerPoint or Google. Primary students begin acclimating themselves to our online resources by learning how to login with their username and password and using the touchpad to point, click, and drag while playing academic games.
